Cool Plettenberg Bay Whale Tale

Our next stop after Knysna was Plettenberg Bay, which was discovered by the Portugesse and originally named ‘Beautiful Bay’. This is a quint little town is known for a beautiful beach and lots of whale watching during the whale season (June thru Oct).

This was the first time when we planned to camp and mother nature let us know how good of an idea it was…. we received some of the worse weather to hit Plett bay in months. 3 days of rain and high temps only reaching 21-22C. Our 45$ tent which we bought ~ 6 years on sale at Sports Authority held out great though. We had one afternoon in the middle to dry out some of our stuff and our last day was beautiful and thankfully let us dry out before packing it all up. We were able to get one session of body boarding in-between rain squalls. Kara and I spent a lovely valentines day here and went to the french bakery for chocolate croissants in the morning then their carrot cake in the evening.

The last day at Albergo

We stayed at Albergo Backpackers and this place was great. It had a real nice common area and kitchen. We were able to shop and cook up some pretty awesome curry meals and braai in the evenings. We were able to slow down again, but after two days we were overcome by cabin fever. The weather broke on the last day and we walked to Old Nick Village to check out crafts and african art. Most of the village was run bay local Africaans. We are all charged up now and ready for our next stop along the garden route.

And I finally found a straw hat after 3 weeks of searching surf and garden stores. Hurray for big stray hats!
