Compression Sacks

Compression Sacks help us make the most of the limited space in our backpacks. These helpful tools are a must have if you’re trying to fit a lot in a small pack or suitcase. We have used them before for backpacking/travelling and they are worth their weight in gold.

We have 5 sacks with us that we use for clothes. They compress, they organize, and the keep clothes dry. We use one of them to squeeze our wetsuits and swimwear into a tight dense package. The others help us keep underwear and clothes tightly packed and organized. We were even able to bring our favorite warm and cozy fleece jackets and compressed them to less than a quarter of their folded volume.

These handy bags can be found at any outdoors gear store (e.g. REI, Eastern Mountain Sports, BackCountry.com). A cheaper, though less environmentally friendly and less durable, way to do the same thing is a Ziploc bag. These work almost just as well. Fill it, sit on it, get all the air out, and clip, zip, or yank it shut.
